It has been said, that we should all have an elevator speech. A 30-second explanation that gets to the heart of "you." I love to write, believe that teaching is my purpose on earth, and spend each day working to have a positive impact on others. That is my elevator speech.
In case the elevator is full and there are many stops, the story continues...
I love to take pictures, write, listen to music, read, and watch movies. In 2002, I married Shane Himmerich. He is a pharmacist working in Sioux Falls. We have one daughter, Paige, who is a Jackrabbit at SDSU. We also have a furry "son", named Mittens, who is my alarm clock before the crack of dawn each day.
I have spent my life in school, starting with high school graduation from Sioux Falls Lincoln back in the stone ages. (The track was a cinder track!) After choosing the best college in South Dakota, I graduated as a Jackrabbit (SDSU) with degrees in Journalism, Sociology, and Secondary Education. I am fully certified to teach English having taken a myriad of coursework on the way to a diploma. I earned a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1998 from USD. Since then I have continued my coursework during my years of teaching. I love to learn new things and will continue that path.
Every new school year is a gift. Don't we all love a receiving a gift?

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and I could say, "I used everything you gave me." |
